15-Year-Old Boy Arrested for Attempted Rape of Toddler in Assam

A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody for allegedly attempting to rape a three-year-old girl in Assam's Karimganj district, according to police reports on Monday.

The complaint, filed by the girl's family, states that the boy had come to their house to play with the toddler on Sunday evening. The girl's mother had stepped out for 15 minutes, and upon returning, she discovered the boy without his clothes on, attempting to remove her daughter's dress.

Startled by the mother's return, the boy fled but was captured by neighbors and handed over to the police. Karimganj SP Partha Pratim Das confirmed that a case has been registered based on the family's complaint. ''Since the accused is a 15-year-old boy, it will be handled by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB),'' Das said. An investigation is underway, and mandatory medical examinations have been conducted for the victim. ''She is too young to tell us about the crime, but we have recorded the statements of her family members,'' Das said.
