Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gahlot conducted an inspection of Tihar Jail on Saturday, unveiling a series of prison reform initiatives, including a comprehensive mental health programme.

The minister announced that the new mental health initiative would be implemented across all prisons in Delhi. This includes the introduction of electric vehicles for facility visitors and immediate renovations of the toilet facilities, as per an official statement.

'We believe in the potential for each individual to reform, and it is our duty to offer the necessary resources,' Gahlot stated during his visit.

The statement detailed that the minister reviewed various ongoing initiatives, including vocational training programs and health services, and issued directions for further improvements.

Gahlot's visit included a tour of Central Jail No. 6, where he evaluated vocational training programs and lauded NGOs involved in these efforts. The statement also mentioned plans to enhance healthcare facilities, addressing both physical and mental health needs.

'As part of the Delhi Government's efforts to improve prison conditions, I inspected the facilities and directed corrective measures,' said Gahlot.

In alignment with promoting green transportation, Gahlot proposed the introduction of electric vehicle services for the 4000 visitors arriving daily at the prison complex.

The minister stressed the importance of providing clean, safe, and humane living conditions for inmates, including improved sanitation, ventilation, and access to essential amenities.

Gahlot was joined by senior officials from the Prison Department, including Delhi Home Secretary Chanchal Yadav and Director General of Prisons Satish Golcha.
