Maharashtra is solidifying its status as India's 'national capital' of electric vehicles, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Major EV manufacturing plants are being developed in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, marking a significant shift from conventional petrol and diesel vehicles.
This transition is expected to have a positive impact on air quality, as vehicles are a major contributor to pollution. Fadnavis highlighted that both private and public sectors are increasingly adopting electric vehicles, with over 2,500 electric buses being integrated into the state's public transport system incrementally.
The momentum of electric vehicle registration is growing, with over half of new vehicle registrations being EVs. In support of this transition, the government is also expanding infrastructure, including a comprehensive electric vehicle charging network across Maharashtra.
