U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a successful raid in western Iraq on Aug. 29, conducted in partnership with Iraqi Security Forces. The operation led to the deaths of 15 ISIS operatives and wounded seven U.S. personnel. The raid did not result in civilian casualties.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Saturday that its forces, in collaboration with the Iraqi Security Forces, executed a raid in western Iraq in the early hours of August 29. This operation resulted in the deaths of 15 Islamic State (ISIS) operatives and the injury of seven U.S. military personnel.
According to CENTCOM, the ISIS operatives were armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive suicide belts. The raid recorded no civilian casualties. Two U.S. officials, speaking under anonymity, disclosed that five U.S. personnel were injured during the operation, with one needing evacuation for further treatment. Additionally, two personnel suffered injuries from falls, with one also requiring evacuation.
Earlier this month, an attack on a military base in Iraq injured at least five U.S. personnel. The Iraqi foreign ministry has since postponed an announcement on the end date for the U.S.-led coalition's mission, citing recent developments. Reuters reported that discussions on concluding the coalition might extend beyond the upcoming U.S. presidential elections in November.
