A special court in Lakhimpur Kheri has convicted Rohit Kumar for the rape of a 15-year-old girl, sentencing him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment, a lawyer confirmed.
The POCSO court imposed a Rs 15,000 fine on Kumar, as announced by Special Public Prosecutor Brijesh Kumar Pandey. Special Judge Rahul Singh handed down the sentence under IPC Section 376 and POCSO Act provisions.
The incident occurred on June 25, 2013, when the girl went to the fields to defecate in Phoolbehad area. Her father lodged the case at Phoolbehad police station, which led to an investigation and a charge sheet against Kumar.
