A former Indian national and yoga instructor, Rajpal Singh, was sentenced to 23 months in prison and four strokes of the cane on Friday for molesting three women during his classes at Trust Yoga on Telok Ayer Street.
Singh, aged 35, was convicted on May 16 after a 13-day trial on five molestation charges involving the three victims, referred to as Ms C, Ms V, and Ms R. District Judge Sharmila Sripathy-Shanaz highlighted the emotional and psychological harm inflicted on the women and noted Singh's abuse of their trust.
Singh, who denied the allegations, plans to appeal the conviction and sentence. He was acquitted of three other charges involving a fourth woman, Ms Y, and faces two additional pending charges with a pre-trial conference on September 16.
