A 31-year-old truck driver, identified as Arjun from Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended for allegedly mowing down four men sleeping on a pavement in Delhi's Shastri Park area, officials confirmed on Friday.

The heart-wrenching incident took place around 4:30 am near the Tarbuz market, close to the Shastri Park metro station. The medium goods vehicle steered off course towards the Iron Bridge from Seelampur, climbing the central verge and fatally injuring four of the five men on the footpath.

Arjun, who initially fled the scene, was located and arrested from his native Fatehpur. A Delhi Police team had been dispatched to trace his whereabouts. Further investigations reveal the truck had five pending challans, the last one in December 2022. Police interrogation with Arjun is ongoing.
