Bundi Municipal Council Chairman Madhu Nuwal was suspended on Thursday following charges of misusing her position to encroach on government land and gain unfair advantages by conspiring with council staff.

The suspension order was issued by the Director and Joint Secretary of the Department of Local Self Government, who also removed Nuwal from her role as ward councillor.

Nuwal denies the allegations, calling them a political vendetta by her rivals. She contends that neither she nor her husband holds any claim over the contested land.

The Department of Local Self Government's order implicated Nuwal in conspiring with staff to misuse her authority as chairman and occupy government land unfairly.

Nuwal was given a notice to explain her position. Following her response and a probe report by the Deputy Director (Regional) of the Department of Local Self Government, Kota, it was concluded that she had misused her post.

The state government has decided on conducting a judicial inquiry and referred the matter to the legal department. The order highlighted that Nuwal's continuing presence in her positions might influence the inquiry.

Exercising its powers under the Rajasthan Municipality Act, 2009, the state government has suspended Nuwal from her roles as ward councillor and chairman with immediate effect.
