The Madhya Pradesh government took swift action on Thursday, suspending six Government Railway Police (GRP) officers, including the station in-charge, in connection with a disturbing video showing the brutal beating of a woman and her grandson in Katni district.

The video, shared by the opposition Congress on X, claims that the victims hail from the Dalit community. “After reviewing the incident, I have instructed the DIG Rail to investigate, leading to the immediate suspension of the GRP station in-charge and five other officers,” stated Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

The incident reportedly occurred last October when relatives of a wanted individual, Deepak Vanshkar, were summoned to the police station. Authorities are now investigating why this official footage was leaked and why the woman and her grandson were subjected to such treatment. Security has been increased in Katni ahead of Congress leaders’ visits to meet the victims.
