Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday criticized the Uttar Pradesh government after the bodies of two teenage Dalit girls were found hanging from a tree in Fatehgarh. He argued that expecting justice under the BJP government has become a crime.
The two Dalit girls, aged 18 and 15, left their homes on Monday night to visit a nearby temple but did not return. Their bodies were discovered in a mango orchard outside a village in Fatehgarh on Tuesday. Police initially believed it was a double suicide and launched an investigation.
Gandhi condemned the administration's attitude, which he said prioritizes hiding crime over justice. He shared a video of the victims' father seeking justice and questioned how long such injustices can be tolerated. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also criticized the hasty cremation of the girls' bodies. The incident drew criticism from various political parties, urging an impartial inquiry.
