Man Booked for Rape and Impregnation of Minor in Odisha

A 55-year-old tailor in Odisha's Jajpur district has been accused of raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl. The girl's mother discovered her pregnancy after taking her to a hospital. The accused fled when confronted by the family and a case has been filed under POCSO Act.

A 55-year-old man has been booked in Odisha's Jajpur district for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor girl, police stated on Wednesday.

The victim's mother filed a complaint alleging that the man, a tailor by profession, lured her 14-year-old daughter and repeatedly sexually assaulted her, resulting in pregnancy.

The victim's mother took her daughter to a local hospital after noticing frequent illness, where it was confirmed she was four months pregnant.

Upon questioning, the daughter revealed that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times by the man over the past few months.

When the family confronted the accused, local sarpanch's husband intervened but the accused fled. The family then lodged a formal complaint with the Dasarathapur police station.

Dasarathapur police IIC Dwarikanath Behera confirmed the rape incidents and stated efforts are underway to apprehend the accused. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
