Inquiry Launched into Nagaon Gang Rape Case Accused’s Death

The Nagaon district administration, Assam, has ordered an investigation into the death of an accused involved in the Dhing gang rape case, sources reported on Wednesday. The probe will be led by a committee headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Pallab Tamuli, they said.
The accused allegedly drowned after jumping into a roadside pond in a bid to flee police custody. The incident happened as police were reportedly recreating the crime scene on the morning of August 24. His body was subsequently recovered by State Disaster Response Force personnel.
The deceased was one of three individuals accused of raping a 14-year-old girl on August 22. The victim was ambushed by three men on a motorcycle while returning home from tuition. One of the accused has been apprehended, while the other two remain at large. The alleged crime has incited widespread public outrage, with calls for better protection for women and stringent punishment for the guilty.
