TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee has called for the enactment of stricter anti-rape laws by the Centre, stating he will move a private member's bill in the Lok Sabha if the government fails to act.
Addressing a rally, Banerjee vowed protests in Delhi if the Centre does not ensure quick trials and sentencing in rape cases. He criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its handling of a recent rape-murder case at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Banerjee also highlighted alleged incidents of atrocities on women in BJP-governed states, stating that the BJP's criticisms of West Bengal's government on women's security issues are hypocritical. He urged the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad to reserve 55% of seats for women in upcoming student body elections.
