The body of a missing petrol pump owner was discovered in his abandoned car on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Palghar district on Monday afternoon, authorities reported. The police are suspecting he was strangled to death.

Ramchandra Khakarani, 75, residing in Ulhasnagar, Thane district, and owner of a petrol pump in Palghar's Chandansar area, had been missing since Sunday night. According to the police, Khakarani left for home after collecting Rs 50,000 from his pump manager, accompanied by his driver Mukesh Khubchandani, 54. Attempts to contact him by his son proved futile as both his and Khubchandani's phones were switched off.

The family filed missing person complaints, and on Monday, Khakarani's body was found within the Pelhar police station limits on the highway. The police, suspecting strangulation, have sent his body for post-mortem examination and registered a murder case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Meanwhile, Khubchandani is still missing, and the investigation continues.
