In a significant development, a Naxalite couple surrendered to security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district, according to senior police officials. The duo, carrying a combined bounty of Rs 10 lakh, cited disillusionment with Maoist ideology as their reason for surrender.

The individuals, Tikeshwar Vatti alias Tikesh (38) and his wife Ganeshi Netam alias Pramila (32), turned themselves in on Saturday. Tikesh was affiliated with the Gobra Local Organisation Squad and the Nagri area committee, whereas Pramila was part of the Sitanadi area committee.

The couple was responsible for multiple violent incidents, including the 2013 skirmish near Khallari temple where a CRPF personnel was killed. They will now be rehabilitated under the government's surrender and rehabilitation policy and have received an initial financial aid of Rs 25,000.
