High-profile Remands Ordered in Multiple Murder Cases

A court has placed several high-profile individuals, including former ministers and army officers, on varying remands for interrogation in four murder cases. These actions follow the resignation and flight of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid widespread protests. The interim government under Muhammad Yunus is cracking down on former officials.

On Saturday, a court placed several high-profile figures on remand for questioning in connection with four murder cases. Those remanded include Salman F Rahman, a private industry affairs adviser, former law minister Anisul Huq, and former social welfare minister Dipu Moni.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim issued the remand orders, as reported by a sub-inspector to the Daily Star Newspaper. Former chief whip ASM Feroz and former army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan were also remanded.

Salman, Anisul, and Ziaul face a fresh 10-day remand for cases filed with New Market and Lalbagh police stations. Meanwhile, Dipu Moni and Feroz received four-day and seven-day remands, respectively, for cases associated with different stations.

The remands come as part of a crackdown by the interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, following Sheikh Hasina's resignation amid protests against the quota reform system in Bangladesh.
