Jharkhand Initiative to Boost Women in Police

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday committed full government support to significantly raise the participation of women in the state police force to 50% from the current 5-6%. Addressing a women's police conference, he stressed on the importance of creating policies that promote women as police station in-charges.
Soren underscored the need for women officers to handle cases involving female victims, arguing that environments frequented by women, such as schools and colleges, should have women officers to facilitate comfortable reporting of issues. He proposed bi-annual police conferences and separate meetings for male officers to discuss their concerns.
Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta mentioned that the conference generated several recommendations, with key areas for improvement identified as posting, promotion, transfer, treatment, and harassment. Gupta assured that these issues would be addressed promptly.
