A couple in Maharashtra's Palghar district consumed phenyl at Naigaon police station on Friday during a meeting related to a money lending dispute, an official stated.
Mohan Gole, aged 54, had lent money to Subhash Utekar, who partially repaid the loan but was allegedly procrastinating on the remaining amount, according to the official.
After Gole escalated his demands for repayment, Utekar lodged a complaint with senior police officials. In response, Gole filed a complaint against Utekar. During the subsequent hearing involving both parties and Gole's wife, the couple consumed phenyl, which appears to be an attempt to avoid charges under the Money Lending Act. Both are currently hospitalized. Inspector Ramesh Bhame affirmed that all angles are being investigated.
