In a landmark move to promote gender equality, Delhi's State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has revised school textbooks following a comprehensive gender audit.
The audit, examining 53 textbooks, aimed to identify and eliminate gender biases and stereotypes. Experts from various educational councils and NGOs identified significant male domination in content, illustrations, and language, as well as the underrepresentation of transgender individuals.
The committee's recommendations include gender-neutral language, balanced representation of male and female contributors, and the inclusion of transgender figures. These changes align with the National Education Policy's emphasis on inclusive education, heralding a step toward a more equitable society.
