In a significant move to bolster Tamil Nadu's judiciary, Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice D Krishnakumar, announced on Saturday that 233 new judges will be appointed soon to various courts in the state.

The announcement came as Justice Krishnakumar inaugurated the District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate Court at Elumathur in Modakurichi taluk via video conferencing from the Erode District Collector's office. The Acting Chief Justice expressed that a request for 300 new judges had been made, and 233 appointments had been sanctioned by the state government.

In Erode district alone, 41 courts are operational, Justice Krishnakumar noted, urging junior advocates to seek guidance from senior lawyers on complex cases. Earlier, Supreme Court Judge Justice M M Sundresh and Madras High Court Judge Justice Anita Sumanth highlighted the need for lawyers to stay updated on legal amendments while inaugurating new court facilities in other districts.
