Three people lost their lives and three others were gravely injured in a brutal stabbing attack at a festival in Solingen, western Germany, police reported.
The attack occurred around 10 p.m. local time when a single unidentified man attacked multiple festival attendees. Witnesses quoted by Bild newspaper indicate the perpetrator is still at large.
Mayor Tim-Oliver Kurzbach expressed his grief in a statement, saying, "It tears my heart apart that there was an attack on our city. I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we have lost. I pray for all those who are still fighting for their lives." The violence took place at the Fronhof market square, where live bands performed for the town's 650th anniversary celebrations.
