A defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been delayed after the plaintiff, Vijay Mishra, failed to appear in court due to ill health, his lawyer confirmed. The MP-MLA court in Sultanpur has rescheduled the hearing to September 5.
The case traces back to alleged objectionable remarks made by Gandhi against senior BJP leader Amit Shah during the 2018 Karnataka elections. Mishra, a local BJP leader and former cooperative chairman, filed the complaint in August 2018.
Gandhi, who surrendered in the court in February 2024 and was granted bail, has appeared various times to record his statement. The latest hearing was initially set for August 12 but was postponed as the judge was on leave.
