Mizoram's Crackdown: Thousands Arrested in Drug and Alcohol Cases

Nearly 2,400 individuals have been detained in Mizoram this year on charges related to drugs and alcohol, according to an official statement released on Friday.
Authorities have apprehended 283 suspects under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, primarily for heroin smuggling.
An additional 1,956 individuals were arrested under the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition (MLP) Act, 2019 for various offenses including the consumption, manufacture, and sale of alcohol, while 152 were booked under the Mizoram Excise Act, 1973.
Since January, the Excise Department has confiscated 13.7 kg of heroin. Other seizures include 38 kg of ganja, 5.8 kg of meth tablets, 17,713 liters of country-made liquor, 8,658 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), 69 bottles of foreign-made liquor, and 3,999 cans of beer.
