The Calcutta High Court on Friday transferred the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The change follows a petition by former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali, who sought an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged financial misconduct during the tenure of former principal Sandip Ghosh.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has directed the CBI to submit a progress report within three weeks. The court will conduct a follow-up hearing on September 17 to review the report.
