Telegram founder Pavel Durov is facing a formal investigation in France, including allegations of complicity in illegal online activities, money laundering, and refusal to cooperate with judicial authorities.
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov urged against turning Durov's case into a political issue, noting that he is a French citizen with the capability to organize his legal defense.
Despite French President Emmanuel Macron's denial of political involvement, Peskov confirmed that Russia remains ready to assist Durov, as it would any Russian citizen, should the need arise.
