The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that it is revising its nuclear doctrine, attributing the changes to increased threats from the United States and its Western allies. The revision comes in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine and what Moscow perceives as disrespect for its legitimate security interests.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov provided a detailed explanation, stating that the West's support for Ukraine has prompted the need for this doctrinal change. He accused the United States of dismantling the post-Cold War security structure in Europe and inciting tensions against Russia's interests.

Peskov mentioned that the revision process is in its early stages and would be based on a careful analysis of current tensions. The existing nuclear doctrine, outlined in a 2020 decree by President Vladimir Putin, permits the use of nuclear weapons if Russia faces a nuclear attack or a conventional attack that threatens the state's existence.
