Diplomatic Fallout: The Revocation of Sheikh Hasina's Passport

Bangladesh's interim government has revoked the diplomatic passports of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and all members of her former Cabinet. This recent development follows Hasina's resignation and subsequent flight to India after a student-led uprising against her administration.
A statement from the Security Services Division of the Home Affairs Ministry on Thursday confirmed that diplomatic passports issued to the former prime minister, her advisors, ex-cabinet members, and their spouses would be immediately revoked. Ordinary passports may still be issued, contingent on the investigations by at least two agencies.
The cancellation of Hasina's diplomatic passport complicates her situation, making her eligible for extradition under an existing treaty with India. Hasina, who faces 51 legal cases including 42 for murder, may find extradition unavoidable unless the charges are proven to be politically motivated. The treaty specifies that certain crimes, such as murder, are not considered political for extradition purposes.
