Prominent Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed confidence that opener Rohit Sharma will continue his association with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 season. Despite losing the captaincy to Hardik Pandya last year, Ashwin shared on his YouTube channel that he believes Rohit is committed to the franchise.

Addressing fans' disapproval of the leadership change, Ashwin noted that Rohit has captained both Mumbai and the Indian national team. He added that for seasoned players like Rohit, the continuity with a franchise often transcends monetary considerations. Rohit had a respectable IPL 2024 season, amassing 417 runs with a century and a fifty.

Rohit Sharma has been integral to MI since 2011, participating in 199 matches and scoring 5,084 runs. Under his leadership, MI clinched five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles. His tenure with the now-defunct Deccan Chargers also includes an IPL win, totaling six championship victories in his IPL career.
