Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing 26 mobile phones within a span of four hours, according to police officials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary stated that the suspects, Shahrukh and Asif, aimed to snatch 26 mobile phones from different spots across Delhi. Their arrest came after an investigation into a snatching incident on the Geeta Colony flyover on August 8, reported by a woman.
Police analyzed recordings from 650 CCTV cameras before setting a trap near the flyover to apprehend the men. Interrogation revealed that their next goal was a spree termed 'Ab Tak 56'. Shahrukh, a repeat offender with over 23 prior cases, was released from jail last November and needed an associate skilled in snatching, which led him to team up with Asif who sought funds for his girlfriend's expenses. Based on further information from the suspects, another accomplice, Rizwan, was arrested for selling the stolen items and was previously involved in multiple serious crimes. The group reportedly stole bikes to carry out their crimes and hid in remote locations post-thefts, as per DCP Choudhary.
