At least 11 policemen were killed and several were injured in an attack by outlaws armed with rockets in Punjab province, Pakistan, on Thursday, police reported.
In Rahim Yar Khan district, approximately 400 kilometers from Lahore, police personnel were taken hostage after two mobile vans became stuck in a muddy roadway at Machah Point.
The attackers struck them with rockets, killing 11 officers instantly, injuring others, while some were taken hostage. The death toll could increase as some injuries are critical.
The assailants fled after the attack. A heavy police contingent reached the scene, transferring the injured to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered IG Police Dr Usman Anwar to launch an operation to rescue the hostages, condemning the rule of outlaws in suburb areas and vowing firm action.
