A Delhi court has sentenced former registrar Balwinder Kumar Sharma to five years in jail for his involvement in the Haryana Civil Service (Judicial Branch) Exam paper leak case. Alongside him, the main accused, Sunita, also received a five-year imprisonment, while another convict, Sushila, was released based on time served.

Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna stressed the urgency of tackling paper leaks with stringent laws to rebuild trust in public examinations. The paper leak issue has significant ramifications, causing stress among candidates and delaying government recruitments, thereby affecting various administrative departments.

The court highlighted that organized crime within the education sector contributes to the problem, and the recently enacted Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024 is a step forward. However, Judge Chandna called for long-term reforms to ensure transparency and credibility in examinations.
