Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov informed a visiting delegation of U.S. congressmen that Kyiv's recent offensive in Russia's Kursk region was a strategic move aimed at national defense.

Commenting on the Kursk operation, Umerov emphasized that the primary objectives were to eliminate Russian military threats and prevent enemy shelling and attacks on Ukrainian towns and villages.

According to a statement released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, Umerov articulated that securing the border was essential to making Ukrainian territories safer from potential Russian aggression.
