On August 28, Ukrainian drones targeted oil tanks in Russia's Rostov region, igniting significant fires at multiple depots, according to Russian Telegram channels. Russia's air defence claimed to have destroyed four drones, but did not report the attacks on the oil tanks.

Baza, a Telegram channel linked to Russian security services, reported that three oil tanks were set ablaze in the Kamensky district by two drones. Social media videos confirmed the burning tanks, with Reuters verifying the location as Rostov's Kamensky district.

Meanwhile, the Rostov region's Proletarsk district still grappled with fires from a previous drone attack. Separately, Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev noted that drone debris caused a fire near explosive objects, but was swiftly extinguished. Evacuated residents have returned. Both Russian and Ukrainian officials continue to maintain that they avoid civilian targets, but focus on military, energy, and transport infrastructure.
