In a significant move towards boosting indigenous capabilities in Marine Engineering, BEML Ltd., a 'Schedule A' company under the Ministry of Defence and a leading manufacturer in Defence and Heavy Engineering in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Navy. The MoU, formalized on August 20, 2024, at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi, marks a crucial step in advancing the indigenisation of critical Marine Engineering equipment and systems.

The agreement was signed between Rear Admiral K Srinivas, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Design & Research) of the Indian Navy, and Shri Ajit Kumar Srivastav, Director of Defence at BEML Ltd. This partnership is poised to enhance bilateral cooperation for the indigenous design, development, manufacture, testing, and product support of essential Marine Engineering equipment, aligning with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The collaboration underscores India's commitment to achieving self-reliance in defence production, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). This strategic initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the nation's defence capabilities by fostering innovation and ensuring the availability of high-quality, indigenous marine engineering solutions for the Indian Navy.
