The Narendra Modi government has decided to enforce reservation principles in lateral entry positions, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. This initiative is seen as a step towards ensuring social justice.
Vaishnaw emphasized that Prime Minister Modi has once again fortified BR Ambedkar's commitment to the Constitution through this decision. He stated that UPSC has adopted a transparent approach for Lateral Entry, which will now include the principle of reservation, reflecting the PM's dedication to social justice.
The Modi government has historically promoted constitutional status for the OBC Commission and implemented reservation principles in various sectors such as NEET, medical admissions, and schools like Sainik and Navodaya Vidyalayas. Vaishnaw highlighted the pride the government takes in recognizing Ambedkar's Panchteerth and noted that the President of India hails from a tribal community, signifying the success of the 'saturation programme' from which SC, ST, and OBC communities benefit the most.
Vaishnaw criticized the previous UPA government for ignoring the reservation principle in lateral entry appointments prior to 2014. He questioned the practices during the tenures of former Finance Secretaries who were recruited without consideration for reservation.
