The Department of Employment and Labour is bringing its 2024 annual National Employment Equity (EE) workshops and roadshows to Limpopo this week. The workshops kick off today at Moche Grace Land in Thohoyandou and will continue on Wednesday at the Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane.

In collaboration with the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), these workshops are aimed at advancing racial, gender, and disability equality in workplaces across the country. This year's theme is “Bridging the Equity Gap Through Diversity & Inclusion.”

The department has invited a diverse range of participants, including employers, organizational heads, academics, senior managers, consultative forum members, human resource practitioners, trade unions, employees, and other stakeholders.

Key topics to be discussed at the workshops include:

The current EE status of the labour market, as detailed in the 24th CEE Annual Report.

Updates on amendments to the EE Act, with a focus on draft regulations for proposed sector EE targets.

Information on the 2024 EE reporting season.

Insights from the CCMA on cases related to unfair discrimination, including harassment, disability issues, and arbitrary discrimination.

The Employment Equity Act (EEA) of 1998 plays a crucial role in promoting equal opportunity and fair treatment in employment by eliminating unfair discrimination and implementing affirmative action measures. The Act also seeks to ensure equitable representation of all designated groups across all occupational categories and levels in the workforce.
