Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh failed to appear in an MP/MLA court on Tuesday regarding a 23-year-old case. The case also involves Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Anup Sanda who did not attend the hearing either.
A non-bailable warrant was issued on August 13 for Singh, Sanda, and four other individuals, with the next hearing scheduled for August 20.
Madan Singh, their advocate, has filed a bail petition in the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, with a hearing date set for August 22. Special Magistrate Shubham Verma will determine the subsequent court date later in the evening.
The case stems from a demonstration held on June 19, 2001, protesting poor power supply. Singh and others, including former SP MLA Anup Sanda, participated, leading to an eventual conviction and three-year imprisonment sentence handed down on January 11, 2023.
On August 9, the six individuals were ordered to appear before the MP/MLA court. Upon their failure to show, Special Magistrate Shubham Verma issued non-bailable warrants against all of them.
