Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the police to invoke the attempt to rape charge against the accused arrested for allegedly sexually abusing two girl students at a school in Thane district's Badlapur.

Addressing the incident that has led to massive protests, Shinde announced on Tuesday that the case will be fast-tracked, appointing a special public prosecutor. Parents protesting at Badlapur station blocked local trains, demanding swift action.

Shinde, after speaking with Thane Police Commissioner, announced the arrest of the accused and urged parents to exercise restraint, ensuring law enforcement can operate effectively. The school's management faces scrutiny, with suspensions already issued and possible legal action if found negligent. Shinde emphasized the need for strict prevention measures, including school staff background checks and safety protocols.
