Ukraine's Strategic Offensive: Kursk Assault and Its Implications

In a significant escalation, Ukraine on Monday targeted a third bridge in Russia's Kursk region, an offensive aimed at creating a buffer zone and weakening Moscow's military capabilities. Ukraine claims it has seized over 80 settlements, covering more than 1,150 square kilometers since the operation began on August 6.

Despite making strides in Kursk, Ukrainian forces are under heavy pressure defending the strategic eastern city of Pokrovsk. Russian forces have advanced within 10 kilometers of the city, intensifying fighting and forcing daily evacuations. Local authorities warn that municipal services might soon be cut off.

Elsewhere, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced ongoing counteroffensive actions designed to inflict maximum damage on Russian military assets. The battle's toll is escalating, with no signs of ceasing, as Kyiv anticipates Russia bolstering its forces to 800,000 troops by the year's end.
