In a shocking incident in Kalyan, Thane district, a man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman and defrauding her of a substantial amount of money. The accused, identified as Iqbal Iftekar Shaikh, was apprehended on Saturday, according to Shil-Daighar police station officials.
The 32-year-old salesman reportedly extracted Rs 12 lakh from the 29-year-old victim between May 2022 and July 2024. He falsely promised to secure a kidney donor for her husband's transplant during this period.
The police official revealed that Shaikh also sexually assaulted the victim multiple times. The case highlights the lengths fraudsters can go to exploit vulnerable individuals, leading to grievous physical and emotional harm.
