Qamaruddin, a Lucknow resident, was apprehended on Saturday for allegedly duping a scrap dealer of approximately Rs 1 crore by promising to provide iron scrap from old sugar mill machines, confirmed local police.

The accused had reportedly secured Rs 1.5 crore from Naushad, a scrap dealer from Ghaziabad, under false pretenses.

An FIR was lodged based on Naushad's complaint, and Qamaruddin was arrested from Raj Nagar extension area using his call records.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh revealed that Qamaruddin is implicated in 11 cases of fraud, collectively amounting to over Rs 3 crore from various scrap dealers across the state.

The suspect allegedly portrayed himself as the director of a firm with a contract to sell iron scrap from sugar mills to bait his victims.
