The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has publicly denounced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent advocacy for a secular civil code, underscoring the Law Commission's 2018 findings that such a move is neither necessary nor desirable.
AIMPLB spokesperson S Q R Ilyas termed Modi's remarks as a ''well-thought-out conspiracy that will have grave ramifications,'' emphasizing that any attempts to alter Muslim Personal Law would be unacceptable.
Ilyas further criticized the mislabeling of religious personal laws as communal and highlighted that the Special Marriage Act of 1954 and the Indian Succession Act of 1925 already provide alternatives for those preferring secular family laws. He urged citizens not to be swayed by divisive rhetoric that polarizes society.
