The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a comprehensive cadre review of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS), aimed at bolstering the administrative framework within the union territory. This decision was made by the Administrative Council under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

The review will see the addition of 87 new posts and the deletion of 50 existing ones. It will also upgrade 29 positions, allowing for better administrative efficiency and experience. This move is in response to work profile changes brought on by new schemes and initiatives, according to an official spokesperson.

The cadre review aims to offer career progression and generate employment opportunities by releasing vacancies for direct recruitment. Additionally, the Administrative Council has directed swift restructuring of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service. It has also approved the creation of 83 posts in the Prosecution Department and 772 posts for Government Railway Police to enhance the railway security between Katra and Banihal.
