Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya assured trade unions on Wednesday of regular meetings to discuss various issues, including the employment-linked incentive (ELI) scheme. This scheme, announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2024-25, was a key focus of the discussions.

During a round table meeting with central trade unions, Mandaviya received a joint representation from the unions, who sought clarity on the ELI scheme and other labour issues. The ministry presented the proposed contours of the scheme, aimed at boosting job creation, and began seeking stakeholder views.

The unions also raised concerns about the Indian Labour Conference, the non-implementation of existing labour laws, and the need for decent work conditions. Mandaviya assured that regular meetings would address these concerns. A 17-point memorandum was submitted, including demands for a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 and social security coverage for 27.88 crore workers on the e-Shram portal.
