British authorities have arrested more than 1,000 people following several days of rioting involving violence, arson, and looting. The unrest also saw racist attacks targeting Muslims and migrants, according to a national policing body on Tuesday.

The riots erupted after the killings of three young girls in Southport were wrongly attributed to an Islamist migrant based on online misinformation. Violence spread to various cities across England and Northern Ireland, but incidents have declined recently due to intensified efforts to identify those involved.

Many have faced swift judicial action and long sentences. The National Police Chiefs' Council reported that 1,024 individuals have been arrested and 575 charged across the UK.

Among those arrested was a 69-year-old accused of vandalism in Liverpool and a 13-year-old girl who pleaded guilty to violent disorder for attacking a hotel for asylum seekers in Basingstoke.

'This alarming incident has instilled genuine fear among targeted individuals, and it is particularly distressing that a young girl partook in this violence,' prosecutor Thomas Power stated. This incident is reminiscent of the 2011 riots following a police shooting, which also resulted in mass arrests.

Swift judicial actions were crucial in quelling the 2011 unrest, where about 4,000 people were arrested over several weeks.
