Ladakh Leaders Press for Resumption of Talks, Statehood Demand

Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance held a joint meeting urging the central government to resume talks on their four-point agenda, which includes statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in the 6th schedule of the Constitution. They reiterated their demands and discussed future actions if the government remains unresponsive.

In a concerted effort to urge the central government, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) convened a joint meeting, stressing the need to restart dialogue concerning their four-point agenda. This agenda encompasses demands like statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in the 6th schedule of the Constitution.

Representatives indicated that a core committee would reconvene to determine future actions in case of continued government inaction. Despite the assertion of the Centre regarding the strengthening of local councils, the leaders, including Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Jan, reaffirmed that their focus remains steadfastly on the four-point agenda.

The meeting, which lasted for three hours, also called for addressing recruitment processes, establishing a Public Service Commission for Ladakh, and securing separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil. They signaled potential agitation if their demands go unheard, emphasizing their commitment to peaceful negotiations.
