Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu, is departing New Zealand today following the successful conclusion of the Fifth Ministerial Climate Change Dialogue between New Zealand and China, according to New Zealand's Climate Change Minister, Simon Watts.

Minister Watts emphasized the importance of China as a key climate partner for New Zealand and a crucial player in global efforts to combat climate change. "Cooperating on climate change has been a significant aspect of our relationship, supported by our long-standing ties," he said.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the New Zealand – China Climate Change Cooperation Arrangement, which facilitates collaboration on critical issues like green finance and the Emissions Trading Scheme.

Reflecting on the past decade, Minister Watts highlighted the progress made through the cooperation arrangement. "Much innovation has occurred over the last 10 years. Our dialogues have provided the opportunity to showcase New Zealand businesses that are leading the way in delivering sustainable solutions," he noted.

New Zealand remains committed to strengthening collaboration with China in areas of mutual interest, including carbon markets and nature-based solutions to climate change. Minister Watts underscored the importance of ongoing discussions to further cooperation and exchange knowledge as both countries work toward transitioning to a low-emission, electrified future.
