The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a man from neighbouring Tamil Nadu on charges of attempting to sell illegal jackal hides.

Acting on intelligence inputs, DRI Bengaluru officials conducted a meticulous surveillance operation and intercepted the suspect on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Two jackal skins (Canis aureus) were recovered from his possession, according to an official statement.

Jackals are protected under Schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, making the possession and trade of jackal trophies a punishable offense. 'The skins have been seized under the Wildlife Protection Act, and the individual has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing to uncover a broader wildlife trafficking network,' the DRI said in a statement.
