Imran Khan and Wife's Physical Remand Extended in Toshakhana Corruption Case
An accountability court has extended the physical remand of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, by 11 days in the Toshakhana corruption case. The National Accountability Bureau accused them of illegally selling jewellery from the Toshakhana repository. The couple's remand has been extended multiple times.
An accountability court has extended by 11 days the physical remand of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the new Toshakhana corruption case, according to media reports on Friday.
The hearing, conducted by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana, was held on Thursday in a makeshift courtroom set up at Rawalpindi's high-security Adiala Jail, reported The Express Tribune newspaper. Judge Rana approved the remand extension for the former first couple after their initial 10-day physical remand in the case lapsed.
Khan, 71, and Bibi, 49, have been jailed in connection with multiple cases, with Khan having been behind bars for over a year. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) informed the court that the couple had only cooperated with investigators twice during the previous remand period. Despite the NAB's request for a 14-day extension, the court granted 11 days and adjourned the case until August 19.
