Indian Consulate Warns Against Fraudulent Consular Service Agents

India's Consulate in New York has warned the Indian diaspora against using unscrupulous agents for consular services amidst rising cases of fraud. India's Consulate in New York has sounded the alarm over rising instances of fraud in consular services affecting the Indian community. Consul General Binaya Pradhan emphasized that travel agents have been exploiting the trust of community members and charging exorbitant fees for consular assistance.

Pradhan pointed out that agents have overcharged applicants for services such as OCI, visa, passports, and emergency certificates. In some cases, agents have submitted fake documents, leading to unnecessary legal complications for applicants.

The Consulate has launched several initiatives to streamline consular services, including digital tools and regular open houses. The community is urged to use official channels and avoid intermediaries. Additionally, the Consulate is focusing on connecting Indian students with the larger community for better support.
